Football & Cheerleading
We had a meeting at the state level with Blackstone Valley last night. The main topic of the meeting was about the timing of the start of the season. Due to the current restrictions and guidelines from both the State of RI & MA, it was agreed upon to delay the start of the season until the middle of September. Blackstone Valley will be holding its next state meeting on September 8th at which time we will come up with a start date based on the current guidelines.
We apologize that this is not the news you are looking for, but our promise to you has been, and always will be to have a safe and healthy environment for all our players, coaches and families. While the decisions we make are not easy, we will always keep your health and safety of paramount importance.
If any new information comes out between now and our meeting on September 8th, we will send out a league wide update via email and our Facebook page.
Thank you from the Entire Johnston Panthers Board
We are closely monitoring CDC guidelines and recommendations along with State orders (RI & MA). As of right now we are still hopeful the season will start on time. With that being said, once it is time we will be moving forward with an abundance of caution and will be adhering to all CDC guidelines and State orders. We will be constantly communicating with everyone as time goes on.
If for any reason the season is cancelled we will issue full refunds for registration.
Please stay safe out there and follow all CDC and State guidelines to help flatten that curve.
Since being established in 1970 the goal of Johnston Youth Football & Cheerleading is to provide a service to young athletes. This service will be geared to promote healthy activity and training under competent adult leadership, in an atmosphere of wholesome community participation. It will focus on football and cheerleading skills plus physical and sociological well-being. It will also include Teamwork, Sportsmanship, Discipline and Character.
The league would like to thank all the coaches. The league would not be what it is today without them including the time and hard work they put in for us. We would also like to thank the Mayor Joseph Polisena and his office, The Johnston Recreation Dept, the Johnston Police, The Johnston School Committee,The Blackstone Valley Football Conference and all the family, fans and friends who make it possible to succeed. These people and organizations volunteer their time because they want to, not because they have to and they deserve our appreciation.
Johnston Youth Football & Cheerleading is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization and all the money brought into the league is spent for the boys and girls that participate in the league. The amount of money needed to run the league is substantial and any ideas pertaining to fundraising, sponsorship or donations are always welcome. Thanks to those who sponsored us and everyone that donated prizes for our banquet raffle and/or concessions.
Football and Cheerleading are both very demanding disciplines and require practice, dedication and the utmost in commitment. They are two sports that are both physically and mentally demanding and also include an inherent risk of injury. Every athlete’s parent or guardian will be asked to sign a form for insurance/medical purposes.
